The Crucible

As Co-head of the glass kiln working area with Janet Hiebert, I taught recycled glass applications, glass casting and glass area youth programs.

The Crucible is a non-profit educational facility that fosters a collaboration of Arts, industry and community. Through training in the fine and industrial arts, the Crucible promotes creative expression, reuse of materials and innovative design whle serving as an accessible arts venue for the general public.

Co-led experimental two semester graduate seminar: The Landscape of Aesthetics and Design for 19 graduate students and Crafts Council of Ireland members. Acted as Tutor Committee Member for NCAD M.A. students. In collaboration with Crafts Council of Ireland, NCAD and Fulbright committee, organized two exhibitions, catalogue and co directed with the seminar students a two-day symposium at NCAD called Inter-Changes: Craft & Context.

After glass artist and SJSU prof. Dr. Robert Fritz died, I became the head of the glass program at San Jose State University and worked there as an instructor in the School of Art and Design and the Creative Arts Program until I retired in 2005. Marvelous vibrant students and Spatial Arts program.

In 1995, a group of my SJSU students and volunteers started the Bay Area Glass Institute in San Jose, a public access hot glass studio, funding the new studio by creating a huge glass pumpkin patch.
